Celtic Spirituality recognizes this even though theologians were so quick to condemn the idea. I know this is true for me. Nature IS God. God IS nature. How can you not feel God’s presence when you’re sitting in the middle of a forest, lying in the sand listening to the waves crash in the ocean, or are surrounded by the lights of the stars overhead. The fingerprints of God’s design are intricately placed all over it. When I’m in nature, I feel the most connected with my Spirit and my Jesus.
When I read “Listening for the heartbeat of God: A Celtic Spirituality” (by J. Philip Newell) in college, it perfectly articulated and put into perspective, what I had grown up feeling towards nature and my faith. There’s a deep history behind Celtic Spirituality and its interactions with God and nature. It’s a fascinating history. And it changed the way I view my time with God.
