I decided to spend my time this weekend attending All Peoples Church conference World Mandate West. For those of you who remember my somewhat controversial post on Facebook a few weeks ago about a pastor’s sermon on gender roles, well this would be the church. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about attending an all-weekend conference after being turned off by the sermon, but I had already paid my $15 for a ticket, had nothing else to do this weekend, and figured that you can never have enough worship time or time being fed the Word. So I went.
Good choice, so far.
Not only was the worship amazing, as usual, but Jimmy Seibert happens to be a great speaker- or at least storyteller. As he shared his testimony tonight, and how the continual need to surrender and obey his life over to God’s plan kept resurfacing, I felt that his message very closely related to my last post from Matt Hammett’s sermon that will take place this Sunday. Jimmy also spoke about forgiveness, which was Matt’s sermon last week. (Hmmm….God are you trying to pound something into my head here?) Anyways, I just thought I would share a few things that stood out tonight from Jimmy’s stories.
“The unlocking of your heart starts with forgiveness.”
“If you can’t even make your own bed in the morning, then how do you expect to be obedient to God and faithful to His calling for your life? If you can’t obey God with the small things in life, then how in the world do you think you can handle the big things?”
“I’ve never liked the saying ‘Obeying God keeps you on the straight and narrow path’. I’ve found that obeying God puts me on a windy path that bounces all over the place- or all over the world.”
Just a few wise words of his. I’m sure there will be many more to come.
