The Scroll Marked III: I will persist until I succeed.
“…I will recognize that each day I am tested by life…If I persist, if I continue to try, if I continue to charge forward, I will succeed.
“…The prizes of life are at the end of each journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to me to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal…Always will I take another step…In truth, one step at a time is not too difficult.
“…I will build my castle one brick at a time for I know that small attempts, repeated, will complete any undertaking.
“I must fail often to succeed only once…I will try, and try, and try again. Each obstacle I will consider as a mere detour to my goal and a challenge to my profession.
“…Never will I allow any day to end with a failure…Nor will I allow yesterday’s success to lull me into today’s complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure.” (pgs. 63-67)
If I persist long enough I will win. I will persist. I will win.
In the Word: Psalm 73, 77-78, 81, 88
These are good passages to pair with this Scroll teaching. It keeps me in check about prosperity, and acquiring wealth while remaining pure at heart. “Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.” (Psalm 73:23-24) I remember a speaker at APU Chapel spoke once on Psalm 77 (yes, I actually did attend a few chapels). He talked about how David used “Selah” in Scriptures ask a musical pause or breath. It makes the passage so much more beautiful to read because you stop and relish in the words on the page, and breathe them in. Psalm 78 is such a great reminder of God’s continuous mercy & grace, despite our continuous rebellion. It is so easy to seek Him when we are in times of struggle, and yet once we receive blessings we often choose to turn against God in them rather than praise Him for them. Yet He still chooses to bless and love. “But my people would not listen to me;…So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.” (Psalm 81:11-12)
